We make Bobbin Lace...

Our Tutor, Amanda, has designed a series of patterns for the beginner to learn certain techniques.  Students are then free to "choose" their patterns.  Here are some of those patterns designed by Amanda.

Designs for the beginner:
New students are provided with a folder of patterns designed by the tutor.  Each pattern introduces a new "stitch" and whilst they have perhaps quite a large number of repeats, this goes towards helping the student to progress and not quite forget what they have learnt in the previous pattern.

The first 2 patterns are the cloth stitch and half stitch snakes.

Then, we move on to a bookmark involving ground stitch and fans before moving on to Honeycombe, pictured above and a cloth stitch trail with spiders, pictured right.

Using the techniques the student has already learnt, the next pattern is a coaster and is about going "round the corner".  This almost always brings out the "uh o" from the student, until they realise how easy it is to do a "simple" corner.

We use this corner technique again with a simple fan edging - learning the straight edge.
